It's really phenomenal how prolific he has been with so few misses. Cure is my favorite movie evar. The grainiest director on the scene 2day. I like that he portrays romantic relationships on screen, it seems like a lot of Japanese directors shy away from them?
Very unfortunate that Charisma has no torrents. It's available on youtube tho. Any tracker invites for the community?

I watched Cloud the other day. It wasn't very good unfortunately, despite all the praise I've been seeing online. Haven't been able to find many people criticizing it apart from the TIFF subreddit.
Obviously it's not a bad movie. It has some great elements to it but overall it was a bit of a letdown. Without getting into spoilers, the entire thing just felt underwritten. There were some plot developments that made little sense, most characters didn't feel fleshed out enough, etc.

Cloud was interesting. I ultimately feel like I don't understand the contemporary culture of Japan well enough to "get it". Seemed like he was trying to make a point about the state of the youth. Ultimately, I thought it was a surprisingly fresh exploration of the corrupting influence of money. The Western perspective on capitalism-allegory is pretty one-note, and having an approach where the greedy capitalist isn't even getting that rich was compelling.

I think you can probably guess which two they were. The first one might have held some kind of metaphorical significance, the second one was utterly ridiculous in my opinion.

same anon from 6744 here, I want to add that I liked the wardrobe in this movie. There were a couple of outfits that are going in my folder. As much as I find Kurosawa to be hit and miss, there's usually some damn good outfits in his movies. Cure and Charisma are maybe the best examples of this.
