When did Google get so fucking weird?
Post image
Good article that I think approximately 100% of people here will relate to: sancho.bearblog.dev/google-weird/

> Google, a search engine which does not have human emotions, assumed that I had been spurned by a man in my life named Dario and decided what I wanted was an empathetic digital friend. What I wanted was some links, but that's not what Google does in 2026.
> ...
> What in the fucking hell? I think this was the moment I, the frog, noticed the pot had been boiling for a while. In what universe is it Google's job to console me and be an empathetic listener rather than just find what I am looking for on the internet? In what way does this "organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful"? Maybe if I had loaded up a Gemini app with a chat interface this would be somewhat acceptable, but I'm using a search engine! Google has seriously lost the plot.

It’s nice to have a listener to vent to. I admit to using Gemini to vent about my life and come up with ways to improve things

Maybe not worthy of its own thread, but not retarded at all. LLMs being given "personality" and writing in patronizing and humanizing ways is annoying at best and psychologically damaging at worst. Further, AI overviews, despite being one of the more legitimate use cases for AI imo, is integrated in an incredibly obnoxious way.

atp i've gone from ironically tedpilled to completely unironically tedpilled. i'm just praying for a nice global thermonuclear war to set humanity's technological progress back by a couple centuries. probably the only possible way to avoid descending into some kind of ai pseudoreality hell

Next time we'll post something a bit more digestible for you, a Simpsons quote thread perhaps?

hahaha you don't think the future generations would pull on the hype train even more with AI then? "Look at the previous generation's accomplishments! Wow! AI???? So cool!!"

Besides a global thermonuclear war wouldn't reset humanity for a couple of centuries, just starve out the world in a cold winter. It'll just kill an unfathomable amount of people.

Why does everyone want tech to have a personality? Too much Star Trek as a kid?

It's a craft like any other and can be refined and used as a medium for creativity and playfulness. Plainchant is in this vein, by the way.

But I want plainchant (if by plainchant, you are referring to Gregorian chant) to have personality which is pressed upon it by the fashioner. The personality of modern tech is treated as if it's an emergent property.
