Just finished my first week at my new job. The work is ok, though I’m overqualified for the role they’ve started me off in. Coworkers are friendly. I’m only making $48,000 CAD a year. They talked up this course I could take after working for a year and I had assumed those people were earning in the $80,000 range but from their postings online it’s more like $60,000 tops and most of them have been at the company for more than 5 years. Several of my family members have professional licenses (lawyers, engineers, etc.) and I feel like I missed the last helicopter out of Saigon. If I didn’t live with my parents I don’t know what I’d do.

Canada is fucked, and England is no better. Move to America, or to Australia.
That's a brutal salary ngl but it's easier to work your way up the job market from the inside. Try and scope out the shape of your industry and look for niches and opportunities for advancement. I'm assuming you're a new grad? I think the main thing to do over the next two years is to try and get out of that bucket, gain the skills and knowledge to make yourself someone who looks like an industry professional rather than an industry prospect.

I’m in my early 30s. I was a NEET with sporadic attempts at college in my early 20s then worked for my dad in my late 20s before but I got tired of living in his shadow. I know I’m lucky that I found anything at all with my resume looking the way it does, so I’m trying to stay positive about it.
