So what's the deal with them? Is there any point in wearing one in 2015+11?
No.11752 Anonymous
Yeah it's convenient if you're traveling or working and don't want to take your stupid slab phone (couldn't be me lol) out of your pockets every five seconds to see the time

On the topic of Rolex, apparently, to prevent their brand being "cheapened", it is now basically impossible to buy one, without sucking up for months on end to the salesman. Same as with the Hermes Birkin. I never understood why Rolex was seen as so good anyway.

they run the same grift on their customers as ferrari, forcing you to spend massive amount of money on their shit undesirable products if you want to even get the opportunity to buy one of their desirable ones.

and for some reason this humiliating findom ritual is not considered a reason to avoid the brand entirely, but is actually sort of ironically-not-ironically celebrated by their customers.

its especially stupid because there are so many companies that make luxury mechanical watches. just chose one of like seventeen other brands. or better yet, find something better to spend the money on than an item of jewellery.

watches are interesting to look at but if you really buy into the brand identities and/or start dropping real money on them you are just as much of a loser as people who spend money on funko pops and video game skins

wearing a cheap watch is good tho, helps to stay more grounded if you easily lose track of time. >>11766 has the right idea.

I have an Apple Watch that I use for fitness tracking but I wear a Casio for day to day.
Having texts + emails on your wrist is distracting to me and there’s an association with techies when it comes to smart watches that I don’t want to be caught in (at least here on the west coast).

I don't mind smart watches I just hate how giant the screen is and how it sits on the wrist like a big slab. I've seen some slimmer ones recently but I'm not a big fan of the idea of beaming Bluetooth and/or wifi directly into my flesh all day. Casio has a new F-91 with Bluetooth now, which is a little tempting. I already have an F-91, but I want to kill myself every time I see who else wears them. I'd rather just tell the time by the sun at that point

Not wearing a watch is a high-status signal. It means you are under no obligation to pay attention to the passage of time.

Customers mind less than one would think, because this restriction on supply maintains the price of the watches on the used market. When you buy a Hermes Birkin, you can immediately sell it for more than it cost you for this reason (this was at least the case two years ago). Of course, you need to buy a lot of trinkets before they let you get the Birkin

This is a nice choice

This was more true in the past
I am often surprised at how watch enthusiasts talk about needing to wear 'dress watches' for formal occasions. In the old days, it was considered poor manners to wear a watch at such an occasion, as it would indicate that your attention was not fully with the gathering--that you had somewhere to be.

Thoughts on the Nomos Metro 38 with power reserve? Gay?
